The Hunter's Ghost

It is located in the constellation Orion, about 500 to 1,500 light-years from Earth. Due to its ominous shape and silhouette-like outline that obscures background starlight, it is known among astronomy enthusiasts as the "Devil Nebula" or "Monster Nebula." The main body of the nebula appears dark gray to black, with its edges set against a background red emission nebula (hydrogen glow), creating a strong contrast. In the upper right, a bright star surrounded by dust can be seen reflecting a blue-white light, forming the reflection nebula cataloged as vdB 62.
